Last Friday night, in below freezing temperatures, our group of a dozen youth and 2 priests set out from Our Lady of Thornwood Center in the 'Your Amazing' tour bus for the heart of NYC.
Equipped with 150 sandwiches, snacks, hot cocoa, clothes, and shoes the young people purchased on the way, we began to look for the homeless who were seeking shelter from the cold in the Subway stations. We had a really fun time and met some great people like Alfonso, Tamara, Rowell, and others. En route we were able to give a ride to a Christian woman we met who had just arrived in town to try out for America's Got Talent the next day!
One of the highlights of the evening was when we met Alfonso, a homeless man standing outside outside Penn Station, and he saw Fr Thomas Vendetti, LC. He was so excited to see a priest he called Fr Thomas "my priest" and stayed close by him from then on!
After drop-offs, we all got home by 4am, exhausted but in high spirits. God is so good! If you'd like to join us in our monthly outreach to the homeless, click here to register for March 1st!
Tamara, a homeless woman we met in Penn Station, noted that she had met groups coming to help before, but they were always from other states. She had never met a New York team before! Let's reach out and make a positive impact for our own City!
